Common Sense Strengthens Communities Nationwide Tuesday, March 1, 2005 Common Sense Strengthens Communities Nationwide (NAPSA)—Ahousereally is a home. In the past 29 years, 175,000 houses have provided homes for more than 750,000 people in 3,000 communities around the world. The houses have been built by Habitat for Humanity, the nonprofit organization that in 2005 has set goals of building its 200,000th house and of housing one million people in Habitat homes. To accomplish that, it is teaming with organizations across the country and around theglobe. For instance, SCOTT Tissue and Towels, a Kimberly-Clark brand, has taken its support for Habitat to an entirely new level. They are making an initial $300,000 donation and also encouraging Americans to get involved through a unique donation to Habitat. How? It has embarked on a 15city Common Sense Tour to make common sense more common. The tour features the “House That CommonSense Built,” a realistic home interior with nearly 150 household tips for consumers to consider as well as an interactive area where visitors have a special opportunity to help local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. For every person who donates a commonsense tip at the House, the Scott Brand will make a donation to the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate in addition to the initial $14,000 contribution per participating Habitat affiliate. The company hopesthat this initiative will increase the public’s awareness of Habitat’s 2005 goals as well as their future participation in helping Habitat build homes. To foster family philanthropy, encourage your children to donate to a charity that has personal meaning to them. Here are some consumer com- monsense tips for the home and helping charities: * Guilt-Free Pantry Cleaning. If you don’t use it, donate it. Give unwanted pantry items to a local food bank. * Is Your Closet Behind the Times? Donate clothes two or more sizes too small, and those you haven’t worn in the past year. Shed shoes that pinch or whose heel height you could never master. * Keep a Hand-Me-DownBin. Place a collection box in every closet to make charitable donations easy and top of mind. * Foster Family Philanthropy. Encourageyour children to donate to a charity that has personal meaning to them and then provide matching funds for any donations they make.
