In 2008, aerospace contributed $99 billion in export sales to the nation’s economy—accounting for 1.5 percent of the country’s gross domestic product. And every aerospace dollar yields an extra $1.50 to $3 in further economicactivity. The aerospace and defense in- dustry is seen as a key part of reviving America’s economy. The Aerospace Industries Association believes that nationwide support of the aerospace and defense industry can help get America’s economy moving again. Not only does it provide more than 2 million jobs, but it creates advanced technology innovation while ensuring strong national security. The key to keeping this industry strong is to make sure invest- ment in defense, civil aviation and space budgets remains strong.
