Mow Responsibly Tuesday, March 1, 2005 (NAPSA)—It’s vital to use outdoor power equipment responsibly, especially riding lawn mowers, to help keep children safe in their own backyards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and MTD Products Inc. have important advice to follow for operating riding lawn mowers: Thinkfirst, then reverse. Think first, then reverse when mowing in reverse. “You would never back your automobile out of the garage without checking behind you to make sure there are no kids or pets or things in the way,” said CPSC Chairman Hal Stratton. “You ought to do the same thing with your riding lawn mower. Always check what’s behind you before you operate a riding mower in reverse.” “Mowing in reverse is not recommended,” said Barbara Hastings of MTD Products Ine. “If absolutely necessary, and one has looked around carefully, riding mowers will cut in reverse after engaging a dedicated safety system.” Cub Cadet riding mowers have RevTek"-Reverse Mowing Technology. Troy-Bilt riding mowers feature RMC"-Reverse Mowing Control. Both systems require a two-step process to mow in reverse.
