Due to shortages of welltrained leaders who can function effectively in complex, technologydriven environments and in varied cultural settings, new approaches are required to prepare young people for the demandsof a changing world. In an effort to promote the development of future global leaders, The Goldman Sachs Foundation has instituted a program that identifies 100 college students of exceptional promise. Students applied from 54 institutions in Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. From the applicants, one hundred students were recognized as Goldman Sachs Global Leaders. The top fifty of these students were given the distinction of “top honors” and had the opportunity to participate in the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Institute.
