Secure Your Home With Style Monday, March 1, 2004 Secure Your Home With Style (NAPSA)—If you’re concerned about home security, or even mildly interested in the subject, you maybe intrigued by new door andglass technology that can help make your home a safer place without the “iron bar”look. Combining several design innovations and a new kind of glass— similar to the security glass used in U.S. government buildings— Larson Manufacturing has developed what may be the world’s toughest and most beautiful storm door. Marketed under the name “Secure Elegance,” the door only became available to consumers within the past year. The glass, called Keep Safe, is impervious to blows from crowbars, baseball bats and even sledgehammers. It will crack on the surface, but an intruder will be unable to pass through. This is possible because the product is essentially a “glass sandwich” with two panes of strong, tempered glass fused to an inner sheet of tough plastic. When fused, they form an extremely durable, clear piece of glass that is similar to automobile windshields. Larson Manufacturing was the first storm door company to pick up on this technology and incorporate it into a line of consumer doors. In addition to Keep Safe glass, this group of doors utilizes a tough metal frame, hidden hinges and a triple locking system which is unique to the industry. Combined, they are as good for security as the traditional “barred” storm doors, but infinitely more attractive. Priced at around $300, they are well within reach of most homeowners. A new kind of storm door improves home security without the old look of bars. Jeff Rief of Larson explains that the company’s objective was to make these doors look like conventional full-glass models, so they don’t appear to be an obvious barrier from the inside out. “We wanted people to be able to open their homes andlet in light without compromising their safety, or the look of their home,” he says. Interestingly, the Secure Elegance door provides additional benefits, including significant reduction of exterior sound, 99 percent UV ray blockage and improved insulating qualities. As the concept continues to catch on, Larson intends to broaden the line. The doors are currently available at Lowe’s stores nationwide. Located in Brookings, S.D., Larson is America’s largest manufacturer of storm doors.
