As you age, you’re increasingly likely to develop cataracts—your eye’s natural lens becoming cloudy. Fortunately, an ophthalmologist can surgically remove the cloudy lens and replace it with an artificial one. If the cost of an eye exam concerns you, the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Eye-Care America program may help. This national public service provides eye care by volunteer ophthalmologists for eligible seniors and others, mostly at no out-of-pocket cost.
